The third ACS Pacesetters Security Officer of Distinction Awards Lunch took place at Royal Windsor Racecourse yesterday, 24th May, and was attended by many of our members, their clients, industry associations, end-users of security and most importantly the Security Officers nominated to receive an Award.

The Security Officers receiving the awards were nominated by the client to whom they are contracted and the final decision on the winners was made by the Sponsors of the event – Cobia UK, Sutton Specialists Risks, Eurotech Monitoring Services and Trust ID. This year the work performed by the nominated officers was outstanding and included life-saving acts, the arrest of criminals and illegal immigrants, officers being injured in the line of duty and individual acts of excellent work which has enhanced the level of security for their clients.

The full details of the successful Security Officers, together with a photograph of the presentation, will appear on the Security Officer of Distinction page of the ACS Pacesetters website (www.acspacesetters.co.uk), but in the meantime the winners were:

The presentations were made by Mr Vernon Rapley, Security Director at The V & A Museum, who also gave an interesting speech on his experience in the field of History and Art and the crimes committed by individuals against museums.

This year we chose to include an Award to The Graff Diamonds Security Team who has been subject to regular Silver Fox Audits for the past 5 years as we felt it was time the in-house Security Teams should be recognised alongside the contract security companies. During this time the Officers have excelled when faced by our auditors who have carried out numerous scenarios including penetration audits, customer service, covert surveillance, goods in transit and telephone audits. The award was presented to Scott Mitchell, Security Lead Officer, by Lynda Moore of FM Contract Watch.

Our chosen charity this year was Medical Detection Dogs and Sue Surbey, accompanied by her assistance dog Casper, attended the lunch and gave us an insight into how these dogs allow people suffering from life threatening illnesses to lead independent lives. The charity also trains dogs to detect the early signs of cancer. A total of £1,070.00 was raised on the day from the proceeds of a raffle.
